Review the list below and let us know what you can help with. GW
Our time to act is NOW! Please invest some time to visit 1855 and check out the activity. The Actives appreciate meeting their Alumni Sig Brothers. Should you see a project on this list you would like to sponsor or know someone who has a service or expertise that the house can benefit from, please contact our house corporation through our web site www.abqex.com Perhaps you have a handy man you could have go by the house and take on a few projects.
What will be our legacy?
Foresight - 7 young men ventured out in 1855 and started a new fraternity, based on specific principles they believed in, friendship, justice and learning. In 1916, Sigma Chi reached UNM. Our Alumni predecessors in 1928, 82 years ago, just 12 years after becoming a Chapter at UNM, purchased the old Abq Country Club land to build the future home of Sigma Chi at UNM. What an incredible VISION. In 1951, that vision became a reality after selling parcels of the land. The awesome new home of Sigma Chi opened on the out skirts of the north edge of campus. The new home of the Chapter was a grand addition to Sigma Chi at UNM and is now completely surrounded by university property, bringing new luster to our white cross. That was their legacy!
The world expects more of us than it does other people - Friendship - Justice - Learning - life long ideas - Living to a higher standard. This was left to us by our Founders. All honor to their name. These concepts have given us favor and distinction. We should endeavor to continue to help make Sigma Chi, continue to excel and expand. With all the EXceptional talent and large number of Sigma Chi alumni around here, what can we now accomplish? What will be our legacy to the next generations?
1855 will be 100 percent occupied for Fall 2010 - Brothers are in the process of fixing up their selected rooms. You should come by to see all the activity. The Actives have done an amazing job with what they have available. You would be proud of what our new Brothers (42 actives with an a goal set for 20 new pledges during Fall 2010 recruitment) are doing and of their accomplishments in the past 2.5 years, since getting re-colonized, which includes the recent winning of their second Peterson Award at Balfour Workshop this summer and selected as the Chapter of the Year for the Province.
Below is the beginning list of what needs to be done with our house at 1855 since we have re-occupied it on June 10th. Keep watching www.abqex.com for more updates. These projects are necessary to once again make Our Fraternity Home a grand facility. The foresight of our Brother Alumni in 1986 to get the mortgage paid off, made it possible to hold onto the house during the time span from 2002 until 2010. Our home property has become an extremely valuable asset and is nestled in a prime location to the university. We now have an opportunity to have a very large pledge class and to once again make 1855 a grand home to Sigma Chi.
Our 1855 Fraternity House has left us with many great memories and is now 60 years old. 1855 has been home to 864 Brothers since 1951 and it appears all the Brothers have become successful. This might lead one to ask, "Did it have something to do with joining Sigma Chi?" Now that membership number of 864, once again moves forward, the advancement of the white cross continues and the Beta Xi Chapter of Sigma Chi, once again in is a strong leader role at UNM. Thanks to all the Alumni Brothers who have helped out so far financially and with in kind contributions. Thanks to JD Herrera who has taken the lead as House Corporation as president and his hardworking Board, Jim Sanderson, Gary Allen, Bob Hayes, David Allen, and Raymond Pineda. Brothers
We are now about 17 days away from being able to have the recolonized Sigma Chi Chapter back in our 1855 property. What an exciting time. We all have great memories when we were there and now it is their turn. Our new undergraduate Brothers in the Beta Xi Chapter of Sigma Chi, are an outstanding group of hard working, dedicated you men who deserve our full support. Since the re-colonization started in 2006, our Brothers have achieved numerous awards for their actions and have invested thousands of hours into community service. They have once again become a vibrant leader on the UNM Campus.
Re- occupying our 1855 property is a big project and every Brothers support is needed to make this a successful venture. Please be watching the alumni web site
www.abqex.com
for the posting of the scheduled work. This will be directly related to the amount of funds that the House Corporation will successfully receive from the current, reactivated fund drive. This is also a call for any Brother that has been keeping any of the 1855 house furniture, logos, books, etc, or knows where any of the Chapter House items are, to please return them or contact Gary Allen, (505-350-1711 or garyleeallen@comcast.net) as he will be working with the Chapter House Manager to get the house back in to working order. Many thanks to Gary for all his love and dedication to taking acre of 1855. Chapter House work at 1855 will all start on June 1st. It will probably be helpful to have an Alumni workday soon. Be watching for news on this to be posted on the web site.

Also, the house will need furniture for the living room, washers and dryers, landscape revitalization and so on. If you have any of these things that you can help supply or have contacts where we can get these items, please let Gary Allen or JD Herrara know. Should anyone have difficulties with the web site, please contact Lee Morgan 505-980-2499.
